Sifu Mik Lane

Sifu Mik LaneI’ve been training and learning Martial Arts since I was a scrawny Brummie 10 year old. 30+ years later and I am still training and learning. I didn’t just fall into Wing Tyun at my first attempt infact it took me 20 years before I found Wing Tyun and realised that I had found what I’d been searching for throughout my epic Martial Arts Journey. To list every single discipline, who and where I was taught would result in me writing a book so here are a few to give you and idea of where I‘ve been : Atemi Jutsu, Shotokan Karate, Judo, Aikido, Lau Gar Kung Fu, Shaolin Kempo, Kick Boxing, Tae Kwon Do, Escrima, Boxing, Jiu Jitsu………

There is no doubt in my mind that each and every Martial Art I have studied has helped me as an Instructor as I am able to give my students realistic attacks by different Martial Arts styles and understand better how to use Wing Tyun to its best advantage.

I originally started learning Wing Tsun (Leung Ting System) in a school in Bonn, Germany, after serving in Germany whilst in the RAF Regiment and then working in diplomatic security for the American Embassy in Bonn.

In 1996 I moved back to the UK and started teaching Wing Tsun. In 2003 The WTKO – Wing Tyun Kung Fu Organisation was born and I continued to learn and work with Wing Tsun organisations in Denmark, Germany and Holland.

Finally in 2007 we made the decision to stop moving from room to room and open our own dedicated Wing Tyun Academy in Walsall. The building won us over and after months of hard graft and a lot of time and effort from students, instructors and family the school was finally ready to open its doors in January 2008.

We now have a wide range of classes, a dedicated team of instructors and a fantastic group of students.

I could not have realised my dreams without the help and support of my wife Simo Nicky, who helps me run the club, keep my feet on the ground and encourages me to follow my dreams.

I am also the proud Daddy of a Son Brody and a daughter Freya, along with our 2 dogs we have a full and manic house, but life is for living and that’s why you’ve got to follow your heart and if you want it go for it, life is too short to wait for tomorrow!
